COURSE TITLE:            500 – Evaluations 2 – Related Services  


DURATION:

Lecture 5.50 hours with out of class assignments of 11.00 hours 
Academic institutions may accept 1.65 quarter credit hours or a no-credit / non-certification grade per course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is the fifth of 12 courses in a National Special Education Advocacy Training NSEAT™ program. It may stand-alone or be combined with the full 12-course program as the education prerequisite to the NSEAI Board Certified Education Advocate™ application. This course was developed as a collegiate level course and is offered for continuing education credits at this location.

 This course provides a broad introduction to related services and evaluations. What evaluations evaluate, types of evaluations, areas to evaluate, commonly used assessments will be reviewed. The role of the board certified Special Education Advocate in the educational evaluation process is discussed.  How to facilitate a student getting an evaluation, consent to evaluations and assessment requirements are outlined. Questions to ask about auditory processing, sensory integration, functional assessments, ToM and functional vision are discussed. Types of assessments, what evaluations are used for Assistive Technology, Audiology, Auditory Processing, Speech & Language, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Sensory Integration, Functional Assessments, Transition, as well as Determination of Service levels will be discussed.  

This course is designed to expand parental and professional education advocacy skills with a broad knowledge base related to academic and cognitive evaluations. This course provides information to students with disabilities, parents of children with disabilities, educators, lawyers, paralegals, state and federal agencies and related service providers on cognitive and educational evaluations and their use.
