Kathryn Krakowiak, BCEA

Kathy serves on the Advisory Board of NSEAI.

Kathy Krakowiak has been a life long teacher teaching K-8 classes, and 1st grade for 28 years in the Diocese of Wilmington DE. As a Master Teacher, she shared her wealth of knowledge and served as a leader in her school,  sharing knowledge and skills with others; mentoring new teachers; and developing strong relationships with parents, families, and stakeholders in her community.

Kathy:

  • Was nominated for Disney’s American Teacher Awards, which honors outstanding teachers who inspire the joy of learning in America’s public and private school students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades,
  • Developed the first "hands on" science program for primary grades and assisted in the development of the science curriculum,
  • Was a Primary (K-3) coordinator for curriculum and policy review,
  • Provided research based continuing education to educators,
  • Taught religion in elementary school,
  • Provided private tutoring to children struggling academically, and
  • Coordinated appropriate student referrals to special education evaluations, so that they could receive individualized and appropriate instruction, based on their unique needs.

Kathy served at a regional leader in education as a Middle States Commission on Higher Education Reviewer for school credentialing for 10+ years and across multiple states.

  • As an evaluator she was a vital part of the peer review process, serving in a multi-layered accreditation decision making process.
  • She conducted on-site visits and/or review written reports and evidence submitted by institutions undergoing different types of accreditation reviews.
  • She participated in making accreditation and pre-accreditation (Candidacy) decisions. She had to make careful judgments about the institution’s compliance with accreditation standards outlined in MSCHE’s Standards for Accreditation and Requirements of Affiliation within the context of the institution’s mission.

Kathy went to Lynchburg College and received a BA in Elementary Education, with a focus on reading. She additionally:

  • Studied Developmental Reading at Widner University,
  • Studied the Teaching of Science at Wilmington University,
  • Is Reading Assist trained and integrated many of the Reading Assist strategies into her everyday general education classrooms,
  • Is trained in the Open Court Reading program, and
  • Is a Board Certified Education Advocate - BCEA - Fellow from the National Special Education Advocacy Institute- and has assisted facilitating classes.
